Abstract

The Oviduct (also called the Oviduct and Fallopian tubes) is one of the female's internal reproductive organs. Retention of the egg after ovulation, pre-implantation embryo development and fertilization is the reproductive organ. Steroid hormones (estrogen and progesterone) are known to affect the morphology and function of cells in the oviduct. In addition to the anatomical, histological and physiological structure of the oviduct, this review will focus on the effects of estrogen and progesterone on ciliary and muscle cell functions and morphologies during fertilization, pre-implantation embryo development and embryo transplantation in laboratory and farm animals. We will also review the causes of changes in the function of secretory, ciliary and muscle cells of the oviduct that can cause embryo transport defects. Finally, we will consider the factors that can cause ectopic pregnancy.
